Excerpt from Epilogue

As we were traveling through Pine Ridge we noticed the Sundance tree where the Lakota had held their Sundance a couple of days earlier. We drove in to take a closer look. I stood looking at the Sundance tree about twenty feet away, when a big red-tailed hawk flew in and sat in it. I stood there just staring at it, knowing why it was there. It sat in the tree for over fifteen minutes, just staring at me. It finally flew away, but a while later as we were getting ready to leave it flew in again and flew over the top of us. I knew it was sent there by spirit as another strong confirmation to me, one that I shared with my new “old” friends.

Crazy Horse had worn a red-tailed hawk on his head when he went in to battle. It was part of his medicine. It has been passed down in history that when he was stabbed, a red-tailed hawk flew over, and as his body lay in the burial tree after his death, a red-tailed hawk sat in the tree with him. When I finished this book I never dreamt that I was going to go through so much more. In that August 2005 trip, I experienced as many feelings and found as many
things, and was led to as many places as on my first holiday. My three companions had very emotional experiences as well, and were given so many answers. We all
look forward to our next holiday together as our journeys of discovery continue.
